Get It Right was written from a one word song prompt: "square". I drew some freehand squares in my notebook. I realized that, try as I might, I was never going to draw a perfect one. It made me think about my relationship at the time, and how we always seemed to hit the same bumps in the road over and over again. I knew that we were never going to get it perfect — but I wanted to get close. ‘Get It Right’ became a song of hope for my relationship — about being determined to find the answer.

Lyrics
all i do these days
is sit and stare
i've been drawing rectangles
shootin' for a square
how can i
get it right, get it right, get it right
how can i
get it right, get it right, get it right
all i do these days
is wonder where
where it was that we went to
and how can we get back there
how can we
get it right, get it right, get it right
how can we
get it right, get it right, get it right
oh i need cold hard charts and graphs
it's about time we filled in the gaps
i can't keep feeling like we're running laps
i'll be damned if i ever hear myself singin' —
we could never
get it right, get it right, get it right
how can we
get it right, get it right, get it right
get it right, get it right, get it right
how can we
get it right, get it right, get it right
